The Umm Gamar North West Dive Site lies on the exposed northwestern edge of the famous Umm Gamar reef, a long and isolated structure formed by an underwater mountain. Located about 90 minutes from Hurghada, the site offers a dramatic mix of steep drop-offs, strong currents, and beautifully sculpted reef walls. The name Umm Gamar, meaning “Mother of the Moon”, reflects the crescent-shaped outline of the nearby island, visible at the top of the reef.
Depths range from 12 to 40 meters, making this an excellent location for advanced and deep-diving enthusiasts. The currents on the northwest side often attract larger pelagic species such as tunas, trevallies, and barracudas patrolling the blue. Along the reef wall, divers can encounter soft corals, gorgonians, groupers, moray eels, and occasional eagle rays gliding past the edge.
With its combination of striking underwater topography, thrilling currents, and a rich variety of marine life, Umm Gamar North West is considered one of the most exciting and rewarding dive sites in the area for experienced divers.
